Peter laughs at this, nodding a bit in animated agreement. "Yeah, he may have mentioned it." Magnus feels like the (mostly) gay best friend Peter never had. From the moment Jason and Peter figured out what they felt for each other, they were so much more than that; the title had been a cover story. Now, he gets that giddy feeling that only comes from having a friend that just kind of gets you. Peter wishes he could offer Magnus a fraction of the comfort that he's given Peter with every bored text. It's like hanging out with Nadia McConnell, only way more comforting without that huge secret sitting between them. A secret, it turns out, she'd known all along anyway.
Similarly, Peter has suspicions when it comes to Magnus' feelings for Alec. There is not one single person that Peter's glitter-infested friend mentions more than Alec, and Peter thinks he sees a familiar longing in the frequency and tone. As much as Peter is dying to know, he's got no illusions that it's his place or any of his business at all. Not to mention, he has no desire to pass judgement on Alec, this seemingly guarded boy who has become important to Peter's boyfriend.
That makes him wonder what Alec knows about his relationship. He supposes that isn't any of his business either and he moves along.
"I'm grateful to be adopted," Peter admits, smiling a little sheepishly. "I was getting the impression that you were one of us, as well. Spencer and Luke's wayward boys, I mean. I don't mean to assume; I thought I'd pegged Magnus as one of us, too, and it turns out he's way older than both of them put together so." He shrugs, as if to say what do I know? Somewhere, he tells himself that he's trying a little too hard. This person is significant to two people Peter holds dear and he feels that disappointing need to be liked.
