The word "training" does more to pique Peter's curiosity about the mysterious boy that Jason and Magnus are both so taken by. The only thing Peter does understand about where Alec, Luke, and Magnus come from is that he doesn't understand it at all. He's picked up on the fear, the oppression and the magic. When he asks questions, they seem to get answered without hesitation, but he's afraid of overstepping. Living in an adult world is hard enough to navigate, but now he has a whole new set of manners to try and adapt. He'll get there, he's sure.

"Are you training for something? Or keeping up your home routine?" This seems like a safe enough way to word the question so Alec doesn't feel like he has to reveal too much. Obviously Peter is nearly dying to know, but he understands the need for trust to build; he'd had a hand in ruining Jason's life by confiding in Matt without enough thought about whether or not it was a good idea to do so. Once again, Peter finds himself realizing how incredibly low his stakes are.

"You can't find books from home here?" Peter asks, wrinkling the line of his mouth in thought. Maybe there's something he can do to bring home to Alec, should that be something that he wants. Thanksgiving joy has seized him mightily and he has a fervent desire to spread the wealth.

"I do! I work at The Dressing Room on Parliament." He is obviously excited and feels foolish about it all of a sudden. He flushes. "I've only had one job before and it was bagging groceries. This one is way better.

"But that's really all that I do. I stay at Jason's, most of the time, and sometimes I play music with my friend Beth, Disney movies with Magnus, and not much else." He hadn't realized how little he does, actually, and that embarrasses him even more. "I'm thinking maybe about school, but I'm not sure what to study."
