If he's honest, Reid is glad that Russell tackles her question because even though the answers seems rather obvious, he's grown far too distracted by the twin cats who are mewing beside him. They're perched on the branch of a cat tree that reaches his waist, so it isn't especially difficult to reach out to scratch behind Catrick's ear again before doing the same for Mister Purrkins.
They're awfully cute, he has to admit, though he thinks he'd probably be tempted to change their names if he were to ever adopt them, which is a thought that opens a whole new set of doors in his mind. Mister Purrkins isn't such a bad name, he supposes, but Catrick Swayze would definitely have to be called something else. His thoughts wonder then to what Luke's policy on having pets might be, especially considering he's a werewolf. It's never come up and so they haven't talked about it, mostly because neither of them have ever been especially keen on bringing on an animal home, but Reid reasons that it wouldn't be so bad.
A cat isn't as difficult to care for as a dog because they tend to be more self-sustaining and of course, if he were to take Mister Purrkins, he'd have to take Catrick Swayze. Separating them would just be cruel and--
"Agent Reid?"
"Hmm?" Reid's eyes widen when he realizes Russell and Diane are both staring at him, though there's a little more of a devilish glint in Clank's eyes. His cheeks redden as he pulls his hand back as if he's been burned, shoving it in his pocket before clearing his throat. "Er, yes, everything Officer Clank has said is very true, and I'd have to agree, it all sounds very fair."
Diane looks a little less like she might fall apart under pressure now, looking him over with a thoughtful expression. "Agent Reid, are you... looking to adopt a cat, by any chance?"
"What? No. Me? No, definitely not, I couldn't, I-- I mean, I've never really thought about it before, I haven't even read much on what goes into taking care of an animal in a household so I'm probably not qualified. What, uh, what would be the qualifications, though, if one were interested?"
He refuses once again to look at Russell, already certain of what he'll see if he does, and Reid knows he likely won't hear the end of this when they get back in the cruiser. And probably not for a good while after that.
